NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies said Paul Pelosi, 86, may face misdemeanor hit-and-run charges after a July 3 crash in Yountville, where they said his car struck a parked vehicle and drove away.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street after reports of the collision. No injuries were reported.

According to the office, Pelosi later told deputies he had hit something but did not know what he had struck. A preliminary alcohol screening test returned 0.00, and investigators said alcohol was ruled out.

Deputies did not arrest Pelosi, saying that is common for misdemeanor offenses under California Penal Code 853.6, according to the statement reported by the Associated Press and other outlets. The case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review, and a DMV re-evaluation referral was said to be forthcoming.

The new case follows a 2022 Napa County prosecution in which the district attorney’s office said it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi after a May 28, 2022 collision. In that release, the office said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content.
