WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The National Park Service says the hidden undercroft beneath the Lincoln Memorial will open to the public June 25, giving Washington visitors timed-entry access to a 15,000-square-foot exhibit area that has been closed since the monument opened in 1922.
The new space will feature interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations about the memorial’s construction and its role in American history and civil rights, according to the Park Service. The agency said the project is funded in partnership with the National Park Foundation.
Admission to the undercroft is free, but advance reservations carry a $1 service fee. Tickets can be reserved through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.
Same-day tickets will be distributed beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial.
