WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on Sunday morning, his office said, and was “receiving excellent care,” according to spokesperson David Popp.

Popp did not say why McConnell, 84, was hospitalized, identify the hospital or provide details about how long he might remain there.

In an update Monday, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, was also hospitalized earlier this year. Popp said at the time that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, according to his office. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.

McConnell’s office has not publicly provided additional details about the current hospitalization.
